Why are you so nice to me?

I often get that question, when I’m nice to people.

The question implies that it’s an effort to be nice. Or that I give something up, when I’m nice to any one. It implies that niceness can’t be free.

But it is free to be nice. It’s very easy to be nice to people. It’s being mean and narrow that costs enery and effort. I think.

The question also content surprise. The questioner seems to be surprised over the niceness. They can’t find any particular reason for me to be nice to them.

You don’t need reasons to be nice. Niceness should always be free.

I can’t help being nice to people. It’s so easy and it makes my surroundings nicer. When I’m nice to people I very often get niceness in return. That’s nice 😉

So, try for your self. Be nice even though your not find a particular reason to be nice. Just do it every day. Being nice where people least expect niceness. You will se a change, I think.

  1. I come from a small town; presently, I’m in a large city and could go forever without seeing a familiar face. A little girl in a large grocery store, recently pointed to me and asked her mother: “Mommy, why is that woman smiling?” That’s the way it is most everywhere in this place. I love being nice to strangers, asking how their day is going, etc. A frown will turn into a smile if you are nice to people, and it makes them feel noticed and appreciated=self esteem.
On a recent trip back home, everywhere I went people stopped me to ask how my day was going and , even if I didn’t know them. It was paradise!! I met an author I never knew right there in the courthouse and he spoke on and on about his books. (History related). Being nice has so many rewards.

  2. I get that question too. Society has reached a point in which niceness, politeness and loving kindness are so rare that when they are found in a human they are always suspect. It’s sad that we have come so far as that but we have. I’m glad you choose to be nice, you’re right, it is easier.

  3. I am glad you are able to be nice in this world as it is. I try each day to smile at a total stranger but often what I get are stares and even questioning looks- is this woman crazy or what ? What makes her so happy ?
Genuinely being nice to people comes from the heart and if the heart is happy and without care, niceness would follow.

    1. I agree. I also smile at people when ever I can. It make take a while before they understand that I’m not weird, just nice, smiling at them. Usually I get a smile back after a while 🙂

  4. Hej anna!

  5. Being nice should be a given not a surprise….it drives me nuts that people think I’m “weak” or “naive” just because being nice comes naturally to me….sure sometimes it can land you in hot water but don’t mistake my “niceness” for weakness…I’m Bipolar….be thankful you see the nice side;) lol

  6. What a sad world it is when being nice to people makes them suspicious of our motives. The other day, I parked my car in a car park and put enough money in for a two hour stay. I was only gone for 30 minutes and decided I needed to get home.

As I pulled out of my parking spot, I had to stop to allow an older couple to park their car. I got out to go and give the man my ticket as I was leaving but he refused it at first and looked at me as if I was crazy. So I just kept smiling and held to ticket to his window.

Then he opened his window and graciously accepted the ticket but he looked bewildered, as if he couldn’t get why I was doing it. But in that moment, I suddenly realised, it does not matter if others fail to see what is in our hearts. WE know and that is all that matters. Don’t ever stop being kind, it does change things for the better even if people don’t know it at the time. A great article!

    1. Thank you and what a lovely gesture. You get a lot in return by being nice, but as you say, it isn’t always people get the niceness, they are not used to niceness 🙂
