Shaggy ink cap Bläcksvamp

I found this outside my house recently.
It’s a funny fungus. First it is all a white beauty, then it transform to a ink colored beauty and in the end it explode and leave the ink on the ground.

Just look at this:

from wikipedia:

Coprinus comatus, the shaggy ink cap, lawyer’s wig, or shaggy mane, is a common fungus often seen growing on lawns, along gravel roads and waste areas.

    1. They are really cool. They are eatable when they are white, but they ink up very fast. I never tasted them, so I don’t know if they taste well.

  1. I was going to ask if they were edible. I guess when they ink up the toxins take over. Interesting, I wonder if they can use the ink for a die?

    1. Interesting question. I have no idea if the ink is useable 🙂 They’re edible as long as they are white. Never eaten them, so I don’t know if they taste good.

  2. The lawyers’ wigs are left from a time when all the men at court wore wigs. At some point they modernized them a little, making them smaller and, I guess, less uncomfortable, but ever sillier looking. Why they can’t just get rid of them I don’t know, but Britain does love its traditions–especially the bizarre ones.
