I found this outside my house recently.
It’s a funny fungus. First it is all a white beauty, then it transform to a ink colored beauty and in the end it explode and leave the ink on the ground.
Just look at this:

Never seen one! How cool.

They are really cool. They are eatable when they are white, but they ink up very fast. I never tasted them, so I don’t know if they taste well.

Very interesting series of pictures of this fungus at various stages of its life – well done 🙂

Thank you. They transform fast. In the morning they can be all white and in the evening they can be gone.

I was going to ask if they were edible. I guess when they ink up the toxins take over. Interesting, I wonder if they can use the ink for a die?

Interesting question. I have no idea if the ink is useable 🙂 They’re edible as long as they are white. Never eaten them, so I don’t know if they taste good.

I’m not sure I would want to try them.

Lawyer’s wig! What a great–and ridiculous–name.

I agree. We don’t have such fun name in Swedish for this fungus. We should be jealous on English language for that 😉

On the other hand, your lawyers probably don’t wear such silly wigs. If so, I’d say you’re coming out ahead.

You’re right. Our lawyers don’t wear silly wigs. Who came up with that idea? That must have been a long long time ago.

The lawyers’ wigs are left from a time when all the men at court wore wigs. At some point they modernized them a little, making them smaller and, I guess, less uncomfortable, but ever sillier looking. Why they can’t just get rid of them I don’t know, but Britain does love its traditions–especially the bizarre ones.

You’re absolutely right. My second most common search question category is lawyers’ wigs.

And I don’t think they mean the fungus then when they search 😉
