We now begin the countdown to Christmas. This day we always have a Christmas market in my town.
But Advent also means the start of the Christmas decorations. Candlesticks, Christmas lights, stars and all sorts of other Christmas stuff come out of my stash.
There seems to be no end to the enormous flow of Christmas decorations, we modern humans have.
But my Christmas decoration favourite is really old. A hand-ground wooden candlestick, as my grandmother’s father has been carved up by simple wooden pieces sometime during the first part of the 1900s.
Every year when I bring this piece out I feel a contact back in time with my ancestors. The Candlestick reminds me that we not longer need to carve our own candlesticks, which many at the time back in the days probably needed to do.
Not only that. The time then, is coming back. Many have again not able to participate in this overflow of Christmas decorations. I let the candlestick remind me of that too.
The candlestick also tells me that we really do not need all Chrismas kitch. We should pay attention to mother earth instead. Consider our task as planetary attendants.
Yes, I get that sales of new Christmas things give many people salary, but can’t we think of anything better to do for a living?
Such thoughts do I get when I see my Christmas decorations 🙂
Have a peaceful Advent.
Anna
Thank you for this post. It is a lovely candle stick, it’s wonderful to have items that connect us to our ancestors. You are right, we as humans don’t exactly have our priorities right all the time.

We put all of our decorations up the past couple of days. It surprises me how much of it we actually have.

Some new things every year can make lots of things after a while 🙂

We certainly fit that mindset evidently. Of course, it’s all been collected over 20+ years too so I guess it’s only natural there’d be a boatload.

We just lit our first Advent Candle yesterday at Church. (We go to mass on Saturday night). Haven’t any decorations up yet maybe a little later in the month. (Before the 25th). Chuckle.

We had stormy rain here. Not so much Christmas spirit in that weather 🙂

It is still fairly warm here, no snow, no rain. It’s not like Christmas weather at all.

Most of us in Sweden wants snow for Christmas, but the snow seems to like January better, but then almost no one wants snow. If it’s not skiing on the agenda of course, then everyone wants snow 🙂

I’d just as soon no snow for Christmas because we have to drive in it. It can be dangerous.
