This time of the year I almost always come to think of a great Swedish song by Ted Ström and Monica Törnell. But it’s not their version of the song that I remember best. It’s the Jerry Williams version. He’s a Swedish rock’n roll artist since many years. An icon in Sweden.
But the ones who wrote the song are genious. They have captured Sweden in wintertime in every corner of our country. It’s a beautiful lyric and lovely great melancholy music that capture Swedish winter modes.
If you don’t understand the Swedish lyric I have done a Google translation bellow. You probably don’t know which Swedish places the lyric is about, but they are all over Sweden. From coast to coast.
I like Jerry Willams version best. But you have to see Ted Ströms paintings in the Ted Ström version of the song. They are beautiful. That’s how Sweden looks in winter time. Dark and cold 🙂

Lyrics
Landsorts fyr där snöstormen drar in.
flämtande ljus i Visby hamn
Bion i Pajala ger “Den sista färden”
Lapplandspilen råmar som ett vilddjur genom natten
Gårdarna släcker sina ljus
Ett stormpiskat Marstrand ber sitt Pater Noster
Stockholm city svajar i sitt rus
Tradarfik i Docksta i motorvägens skugga
Google translated:
A coastal tanker stomping through the pack ice in the Quark.
A workout at the Ullevi Stadium in haze.
Tornio border station, an old woman on a kick.
Landsorts lighthouse where blizzard draws.
Dense snow gloppar Maria mountain’s slopes.
Hot and sweat at Statt Harnosand.
A trader in snowsmoke between Kiruna and far
flickering light in the harbor of Visby
It is then that the great melancholy rolls in
And from the sea blows an icy, bleak wind.
In Malmö scratched the fog of the ferries sirens
And on the other side of the strait begins world.
A lone Volvo toil in the headwind on Tjörnbron
Cinema in Pajala provide “Deliverance”
Lapplandspilen bellowing like a wild beast through the night
The farms extinguish its light
A stormy Marstrand ask her Paternoster
Stockholm city swaying in his drunkenness
It is then that the great melancholy rolls in
And from the sea blows an icy, bleak wind.
Tradarfik in Docksta shadow motorway
An overdose of Skärholmens station
Snowed farms somewhere in Österlen
And the drinking gets going in Mommas pub
Frozen thirst in the queue for city pub in Luleå
Frozen dreams in the monarchy
Love makes live between night shift and the dream
Love go on cheap wine
It is then that the great melancholy rolls in
And from the sea blows an icy, bleak wind.
It is then that the great melancholy rolls in
And from the sea blows an icy, bleak wind.
Winter in Trosa Sweden
Those lyrics paint a great, atmospheric picture.

Agree. I watch and try to learn painting like that. Watercolors are tricky to master 🙂

Thanks, it’s a google translation, so I hope it is possible to understand. Swedish text is not so easy to translate to English 🙂

It was good enough

Thanks, good to know. When I write in Swedish I use my “own language” with a special way to use words. That is not something google translate take notice of.

Oh Anna, what a wonderful post. While I listened to the older version first and loved looking at the paintings, I too preferred the newer recording. 🙂 Thank you!

Very much Anna. The newer version was like poetry to music and you know I love poetry… 😉

I do and I think that you in some way “hear” the Swedish words and understand them if you know what I mean.

Yes, I do know. It is like hearing the poetry of Pablo Neruda and I don’t speak Spanish, yet he speaks to me… 🙂

I know what you mean. Words can be magic 😉

They certainly are! Unfortunately there are too many who use them as weapons… 😦

Agree. The only way to fight that is to use words in good ways 🙂

All I can say is that the paintings don’t lie. It is as beautiful as in the paintings:)

They’re fun to use. I think they often sell them as childrens crayons but I’m finding them perfect as art crayons.

Yeah honestly I thought u used colored pencil/watercolors. Haha

Bee wax crayons leave a shiny surface and that gives an extra effect to the painting. They dry faster than oil colors too, so I like them 🙂
